13th BCC Open 2013

Bangkok Chess Club has the honor of inviting all Chess Players to participate in the 13th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2013 from 14th to 21st of April 2013 at the 5-star Dusit Thani Pattaya Resort.

With more than 300 players from 40 countries, the tournament is expected to be the biggest and strongest ever held in Thailand.

Tournament Regulations

  1. This is an individual tournament, open to all players.
  2. There are two groups of play: Open category for all players, and Challenger category for players rated below 2100 or unrated (ratings based on FIDE or Thai ELO ratings – other national ratings will be validated by the organizer). When registering, players must indicate in which group they wish to play.
  3. FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules and regulations shall apply. Results will be sent for FIDE rating calculations, and are eligible for FIDE title norms.
  4. Both groups will be played using the Swiss System, with 9 rounds for Open, and 7 rounds for  Challenger. For the pairings, a Swiss Manager program will be used.
  5. The matches shall be conducted according to the schedule, which will be made known to the respective players before the start of the tournament.
  6. Classical time control will be used: each player has 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
  7. Five minutes before the games start, the Chief Arbiter shall make the announcement accordingly. If any player is not present within an hour after the game is started, he shall lose by default.
  8. Players are not allowed to bring mobile phones or other electronic devices to the tournament hall, any violation shall result in loss of game.
  9. Officials and players should be smartly attired at all times while in the playing hall.

Prizes

BCC Open prizes are for 1-10 ranks and 5 best Thais, and certificates for best 3 best juniors and best lady. 1st prize will be Baht 100,000. BCC Challenger has prizes for 1-5 with 1st prize Baht 15,000, and certificates for 3 Best Juniors and best Lady.

Please note: Under Thai law, 5% tax must be deducted from prize money. All prizes are in Thai Baht.

  • Chief Arbiter: IA Markku Kosonen (Finland)
  • Deputy Chief Arbiter: IA Panupand Vijjuprabha.

In the event of a dispute the Chief Arbiter’s decision is final.

Players are required to budget for their own board and lodgings, as well as transportation. Special room rates have been negotiated at Dusit Thani Pattaya:

  • Superior Garden View Room, Single/Twin, Baht 3,100 nett / room / night
  • Superior Sea View Room, Single/Twin, Baht 3,500 nett / room / night
  • Upgrade to Dusit Club room (2,000 Baht nett) or Grand room (4,000 Baht nett)

Getting to Pattaya

From Bangkok there are air-conditioned buses to Pattaya running every 30 minutes or so from both Ekkamai and Morchit 2 bus stations (124/133 Baht per person). There are also hourly buses direct from Suvarnabhumi Airport (134 Baht, click here for more information) which will drop you at the Sukhumvit Road intersection for North Pattaya – you will need local transportation from there.

A taxi from the airport to your hotel will cost around 1,300 Baht. The Dusit Thani can also arrange a limousine or VIP minibus to meet you or your group:

  • Nissan Tiana: 3,000 Baht nett per way per car
  • 9-seater Nissan Urvan: 3,500 Baht nett per way per car

  • Open: 3,000 Baht
  • Challenger: 1,500 Baht
  • Late registration after 15 March, 2013 is an additional 500 Baht

  • The deadline for registration is 15 March, 2013. After this a late registration charge will be added. Organisers reserve the right to refuse or decline late registrations.

Conditions for Titled Players

  • Tournament fees are waived for GMs, WGMs, IMs, WIMs and players rated over 2500 (according to the official FIDE April 2013 rating list).
  • First 12 GMs to register will get complimentary accommodation (room & breakfast in twin sharing with another GM for 8 nights). Complimentary room reservation is confirmed after receiving deposit transfer of 50 Euros). This deposit will be fully returned after check-in to hotel.
