UPDATE: Registration now open: click here.
Next year’s Thailand Open will be our 10th international tournament, with main sponsorship from The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Chess Association.
The dates are confirmed as 14-20 April 2010 for the Open Tournament, over the Songkran holiday period. The Challenger Tournament will begin a day later on the 15th.
Our new format allows for better preparation: while the first 4 rounds will be played in two days, the next 5 rounds are just one per day, starting in the afternoon.

11 titled players are already registered including former World Junior Champion, WGM Vera Nebolsina !
I would love to be able to travel to a chess tournament. Maybe one day!
you need to sort out your website registration page quickly otherwise it will have a very negative impact on your forthcoming tournament.
Thanks – we have just moved to a new, and hopefully better server, but there seem to be some teething problems.
For chess lovers or professionnal players: I am sure you already noticed that Sidney tournament will hold just before: http://www.fide.com/calendar/tournaments?view=calview&aid=5332

Then you can do a Sidney-Phuket-Bangkok or Sidney-Bangkok-Phuket trip and stay Phuket’s chess club http://www.southernfriedrice.com 🙂
You can get some new data about Jetstar, flights between Phuket and Australia on http://www.phuketwan.com or http://www.phuket-info.com/forums…many interesting things to read about increase of flights between Australia and Phuket…good, for thai tourist industry improvment.

Thanks for registration opening 🙂
Venue is Century Park Hotel, same tournament place April 2008.
This is one big many stars hotel with swimming pool at the top roof (you can use only as client).
It’s located near Victory Monument. You can use BTS (sky train) stop Victory monument station, and walk about 200m in one street to go to venue.
It’s very very nice hotel … I only hope, organizers will not forget about the low-degrees heat of last tournament in the same place … only recall players, not to play in T-shirt, but use warm shirt…(no need for very well dressed players with suits). And for farang players, not acquainted with Thai culture, remember it’s Songkran time (look at some photos).
Good points. This time we will be in the Grand Ballroom, a much larger venue than last time, with a very high ceiling. I think the temperature should be fine, but best to be prepared…
Peter, much obliged for your earliest posting of playing dates. I have entered seriously tough negotiations for trip approval from the wife which would put the Copenhagen Summit to shame 🙂 Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!
