Congratulations to Deniel Causo of the Philippines, winner of the 2nd rapid tournament at Checkmate in Asiatique Riverside Bangkok, with a rating performance of 2369. Jasper Rom’s unbeaten run also earned a performance rating over 2300. Top 10 placings were:
Congratulations to Matthew Nunbhakdi, best junior despite only playing 4 rounds (all wins), and WCM Worasuda Atthaworadej, best lady.
Checkmate is an excellent chess-themed restaurant set in the very popular Asiatique Riverside redevelopment of Beer Chang’s dockland warehousing. This tournament looks set to become a regular feature of Bangkok’s chess calendar.

With the political situation appearing to settle down, there are now 220 players from 41 countries registered for the Thailand Open 2014 and Bangkok Chess Club Challenger tournaments, with 60 titled players including 15 grandmasters.
Looking to improve on his shared 1st place (3rd on tie-break) in 2011, top seed GM Francesco Vallejo Pons is coming from Spain, along with the Champion from that year, GM Jan Gustafsson of Germany (pictured above with GM Nigel Short).
The Bangkok Chess Club and CheckMate Bar & Bistro have the honour of inviting all Chess Players to participate in the 2nd BCC CheckMate Rapid Chess Open from 15th to 16th March, 2014 in Bangkok.
Tournament Regulations
This is an individual tournament, open to all players with FIDE ID. The maximum number of players is 50.
FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules and regulations shall apply. Results will be sent for FIDE rating calculations.
Tournament will be played using the Swiss Pairing System over 7 rounds. For the pairings, a Swiss Manager computer program will be used.
Each player is accorded with a time control of 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move.
Five minutes before the games start, the Chief Arbiter shall make the announcement accordingly.
Mobile phones or other electronic devices must be turned off in the tournament hall, any violation shall result in loss of game.
Officials and players should be smartly attired at all times while in the playing hall.

Prizes
There will be cash prizes for the first three players, and the first prize will be Baht 5,000. Prizes for best junior and best lady.

Entry Fees
Baht 800 (late registration after 2.3.2014 Baht 1,000). All tournament fees must be paid before the start of the first round. The entry fee includes buffet lunch at CheckMate on both days.
Registration
Please complete the online registration form. The organizer will confirm your registration by e-mail. If you do not get a reply within a week, please send a reminder to bangkokchessclub@gmail.com. The deadline for registration is March 2, 2014. After this a late registration charge will be added. However, organizers reserve the right to refuse or decline late registrations. The maximum number of players is 50, and maximum 50% can be non-fide-rated (all players must have FIDE ID).
