The 17th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2017 will be held at the Regent Cha-am Beach Resort, a beachfront resort overlooking the Gulf of Thailand located in Cha-am and only 15 mins drive to Hua-hin, a family friendly and relaxed beachside town. The Regent Cha-Am hosted the 5th BCC Open in 2005, where Grandmasters Ian Rogers and Eugenio Torre battled for the crown. Since then, the beach has grown due to the addition of many tonnes of sand, and the playing facilities extended and improved.
The Thailand Chess Association has again given their backing, making this tournament the Thailand Open Chess Championships 2017.
The location is quite the opposite to the hustle and bustle of Pattaya, with a clean and quiet beach and little danger of getting soaked every time you leave the resort. Cha-am town and Hua-hin are famous for their seafood, and a regular weekend escape from Bangkok for Thai families and expats alike.
The Open Tournament will run for nine days, from 8–16 April 2017, with only one round of chess per day. There will also be the seven round Challenger Tournament, and the BCC Open Blitz Championship held over two evenings.
The town of Cha-am lies 173 km south of Bangkok. Frequent bus and minibus services link Cha-am with Hua Hin and Bangkok’s Suvanabhumi Airport.
We will post more information as well as the hotel booking form, registration form, tournament details and schedule, both here and on our Facebook page.
